About me

Illustrated portrait of Bridget Monroe

Overnight emergency veterinary technician at a 24-hour animal hospital, about six years in the trade. Grew up somewhere that actually had seasons and moved out for the job; still not used to Christmas in short sleeves. Reads across science fiction, older dystopian classics, and dense nonfiction, usually on the paper log rather than an app. Got pulled into modern board games through a friend a while back and now plays almost exclusively two-player with my partner Mara after a shift, most sessions starting well past nine at night.

I work nights, so most of what I read and play happens after the rest of the house has gone quiet. I'm an overnight vet tech at an emergency animal hospital here in Tucson, about six years in now, and I write about the books and games that get me through the shift changes and the slow 3am stretches when nothing's coming through the door. Everything here gets played at two, almost always with my partner Mara across the table, so if a review keeps circling back to how a game handles exactly two people, that's not a quirk, that's just the only table size I actually have most nights.

Where I am: Tucson, Arizona

Writing this from a break room at 2am with a cold coffee, so forgive any typos, I'll fix them when I'm less tired.

What's here

Book reviews, board game reviews, and personal essays. No schedule, no affiliate links, nothing sponsored. I write about a book or a game after I've actually finished it and have something to say, which is why the dates on here are irregular.
